After watching the Nigeria - Tunisia match that ended 2 - 2 I guess it will not be out of place to begin to prepare our minds towards a possibility of Nigeria not qualifying for the first world cup on African soil.
On paper Nigeria is always a favorite to qualify for any football tournament/competition in the world regardless of the number of slots available for the African continent.
While listening to 88.9 FM radio yesterday all but a few callers dared to talk about the possibility of not beating Tunisia today and of course such people were dismissed as unpatriotic and when the presenters didn't want to use harsh words they simply stated that the callers were entitled to their opinions.
I guess by now they would have realized that indeed Nigeria may not even be at the world cup.
Now to the match proper, what was Taye doing or better put, where was he when the scorer of the second goal created an ample space for himself before he was given the ball?
Though he overlaps often to help the attack I believe the coach should have told him that you cannot do these overlapping runs to the detriment of the team especially when no one is covering the position you left and you don;t have the speed to return to your position on time to defend balls.
I still play football very well and I have had to scream this simple thing into the heads of defenders that I play with who are always in a hurry to join the attack, take free kicks no matter how deep into the opponents half and funny enough most times their overlapping runs lead to unnecessary goals being conceded and then they begin to pity themselves.
Agreed, the Tunisian team played like a team, fought for balls and looked more organised when compared to the Nigerian side that still rely on individual skills as against a coherent teamwork based approach.
The presidential task force I believe provided everything the relevant bodies and handlers requested for, they team on their part promised to deliver and as I write this I don't even know what to make out of the team again.
What happened to the team that beat France?
The players that featured in that match played with a lot of heart and were serious on the pitch.
